Highlights

A glimpse into the two medieval sites of the Bohemian Kingdom, where some of the most important parts of the Czech history since the Middle Age happened and have formed present Czech nation as well as the World today. Travel back in time, with small adventure going down the underground complex and climbing up the steep wooden stairs of Gothic Towers, dated from the 15th century.

Program

  • Pick up at your hotel/accommodation and depart to Tabor, founded in late 15th century by the Hussites, where the most important parts of the Czech history happened.
  • Walking sightseeing of the medieval Zizka Square with buildings in different architectural styles and learn about the story of Jan Huss and Jan Zizka, the two most important figures in the Hussite reformation and Czech national heroes.
  • Wander through the labyrinth of narrow cobbled lanes, Burgher’s Street with beautifully decorated wall and facades, explore the surrounding of Kotnov Castle Tower inside the ancient fortified double walls.
  • Guided visit down the underground cellars system, 16 meters right under the main square. All connected, they are believed to be 14 kilometers long. Built to store food and beer since the 15th century, they were also used as shelter from fire.
  • Climb the tower of the Dean’s Church of Lord‘s Conversion on Mount Tabor to discover a magnificent bird’s eye view of the whole town.
  • Lunch on own.

Option – Visit the Hussite Museum or climb the Castle Tower for another panorama view of the town.

  • Continue to the Gothic Konopiste Castle, built in late 13th century in typical French forteresses with cylindrical towers, a fortified watchtower, four gates, and a drawbridge.
  • Walk up a short trail to the castle through the beautiful forest.
  • Guided tour of the castle, once belonged to Archduke Franz Ferdinand d´Este, the heir to the Austro-Hungarian crown, who was assassinated in Sarajevo in 1914. The incident has triggered the first World War.

Option – A ballon ride to explore the aerial view of the castle and the breathtaking Bohemian landscape, subject to availability and the weather condition.

  • Return to Prague.

Note: Konopiste Castle is closed every Monday and between December through April. During the mentioned closing time, the visit of the castle will be replaced by the tour of Pisek.

  • After lunch, continue to Pisek, another historic town with the oldest surviving stone bridge in the Czech Republic from the Gothic era.
  • Walking sightseeing of Pisek historic town, the castle and the Stone Bridge.
  • Climb the Gothic Tower of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, first built in the 13th century and get the spectacular views of the town of Pisek and surroundings.
  • Return to Prague.
